Dhow boat

Other ancestor of the popular sailboat comes of Arab countries and it is called Dhow; this boat is characterized by triangular sails and shallow draft, most of them have a single mast however these can have two or three mast, too. The origins of these singulars boats is confuse, but many historians said that the Dhow appear along with Islam, at the time when the Arab people began to spread their new religion all over the Indian Ocean basin through the Dhows. This boat was used primarily as a cargo vessel, and there are many types of them.

In opposite of occidental countries, the Muslim peoples conserved the form of the Dhows, without making any modification, therefore many dhows of Muslim world are used for tourism, because conserve its original style of VII and VIII centuries, except that now these are equipped with an auxiliary motor. Many historians affirm that the this boat was inspiration for the Venetian Galleys and Caravels that in later times, these were produced with advance naval technique of Europe and resulted in Sailboat of different types: mixed vessels sails (triangular, rectangular and trapezoidal). These modern Dhow allowed that the Occidental countries to conquest of the world seas by the capabilities and performance of their vessels.

Actually, these Dhows are demanded by tourism sector in the orient countries by its traditional and ancient forms. In consequence, Dhows are very popular in all Indian Ocean for their beauty and for their utility.
